We purchased Topaz as a maiden, who came with a breeding to Avatar. She is still one of our very favorite girls and an excellent production dam. Her first cria (2009) was a very light rose grey female we named Antonia, who is still a highly valued production dam in our herd. The next year (2010), her cria was a lovely true black male. His fiber was like black velvet with fantastic brightness. Unfortunately, Topaz aborted twins in 2011 and we held her open until 2012. We were anticipating something very special to arrive in late July 2013 through the combination of genetics from Princeton (Bizcocho/Don Marcelino/Timoteo) and Topaz (Mezcal/Drambuie). WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! Unfortunately we lost him at 6 mos. of age due to trauma, the cause of which is unknown. but we suspect he was kicked or stepped on at feeding time. This boy was a 17 lb. light fawn looking a lot like his sire, Mezcal and grandsire, Bizcocho. We repeated this breeding resulting in a beautiful female, a modern dark silver grey and her last cria was another lt. fawn our of 2 darks! The results are you never know what color Topaz might produce, but you will not be disappointed. We have not bred her in recent years simply because we are trying to reduce our herd size. Her behavior indicates that she would still like to be a mama!
